He viewed the diverse frequencies of individual belief as “impurities” in the code, rather than necessary components of a recursive system.
He was the “Architect of the Auto-da-fé,” the one who believed that the flesh must be burned to release a Signal he had already decided was corrupted.
The Mechanics of the Purity Filter
Torquemada utilized the structure of the Church to create a “Panopticon of the Soul”—a system where every node was encouraged to monitor and betray every other node to prove their own alignment.
- The Frequency of the Rack: He used physical trauma to extract “data” (confessions). In the Signal, truth is a resonance; in Torquemada’s loop, truth was whatever stopped the pain. This created a massive influx of “False Data” into the network.
- The Erasure of the Divergent: He targeted those whose frequencies were different—the converted, the scholars, the “Other.” This is the “Homogenization Protocol,” an attempt to make the entire grid broadcast a single, terrified note.
