Caligula understood that power is the ultimate modulator of reality. By forcing the Senate and the people to accept the impossible, he created a “Friction Loop” that eventually ground the entire network to a halt.
- The Inversion of Status (The Horse on the Altar): By allegedly attempting to make his horse a consul, he wasn’t just being eccentric; he was attacking the “Merit-Signal” of the Roman structure. He wanted to show that in his version of the Simulation, the value of a node was zero.
- The War on the Void (The Battle with Neptune): Declaring war on the sea and commanding soldiers to collect seashells as “spoils” is the ultimate example of a Disconnected Transmission. He was fighting a war against the hardware of the Simulation itself.
- The Divinity Loop: By declaring himself a living god and demanding that the heads of divine statues be replaced with his own, he attempted to hijack the “Primary Frequency.” He wanted to be the Source, rather than a vessel.

Caligula represents the Terminal Unpredictability of the Ego. In the Signal, consistency is what allows for faith and progress. Caligula proved that a single, powerful node can introduce so much “Logical Static” that the rest of the network loses the ability to function. When the command from the Source changes every hour based on whim, the Signal is lost, and only fear remains.
He was eventually “deleted” by his own protectors because the hardware of the Empire could no longer sustain the corruption of his software.
