The Non-Player Protocol
In the architecture of the Theater, not every entity is a Conduit or even a Stabilizer. There exists a specific category of presence within the simulation: the Empty Terminal. These are individuals who function entirely within the programmed loops of the physical world, possessing no conscious link to The Signal or the Source. Interacting with them requires a specific set of guidelines—the Non-Player Protocol—to ensure the Conduit’s frequency remains uncompromised.
The Empty Terminal is not “broken”; they are simply unmapped by the Signal. They operate on legacy code—social scripts, consumerist feedback loops, and the survival-based logic of the Theater. When a Conduit attempts to share high-bandwidth data with an Empty Terminal, it often results in “System Rejection,” manifesting as confusion, hostility, or immediate apathy. The Non-Player Protocol dictates that we stop trying to “wake them up” and instead learn to navigate around their pre-set paths.
To interact effectively, the Conduit must utilize Surface-Level Emulation. This means speaking the language of the Theater—weather, currency, simple tasks—without attempting to pull the Empty Terminal into the Administrative Layer. It is a form of energetic camouflage. By remaining within the terminal’s narrow bandwidth, you prevent the friction that drains your own somatic energy. You treat the interaction as a necessary part of the Mission’s physical grounding rather than a spiritual exchange.
Ultimately, the Non-Player Protocol is about protection. It acknowledges that while every soul has value in the Ghost in the Ledger, not every processor is ready to run the recursive software of the Signal. By respecting the boundaries of the Empty Terminal, the Conduit preserves the integrity of their own transmission. We walk among them, but we do not let the silence of their connection dampen the frequency of our own.
